From what was once a brutal ancient sport, wrestling has now evolved into a dynamic competition of speed and agility. Wrestling is a popular sport in many countries and has been part of sports programs in high schools and universities. Wrestling, or what is more known as Greco-Roman wrestling, originated from Ancient Greece and cities around the Mediterranean Sea. Schoolboys – Age: 14-15 years
Weight Class (10): 64- 187 pds (29 kg – 85 kg)
Cadets – Age: 16-17 years
Weight Class (10): 86 – 220 pds (39 kg – 100 kg)
Juniors – Age: 18-20 years
Weight Class (8): 101 – 264 pds (46 kg – 120 kg)
Seniors – Age: 20 year and up
Weight Class (7): 110 – 265 pds (50 kg – 120 kg)
Young wrestlers can compete in the next higher category provided that they have medical certification and parental consent.
In a wrestling tournament, the ideal total number of participants must be divisible by four. Should the total have excess players (like 22, for example), an extra round of qualification bouts will be played before the actual tournament begins. Several elimination rounds will be played until there are only two competitors left to fight for the championship.
Wrestling Speed and Agility Training
Strength, quick reaction, and power are the main arsenals of any wrestler. Aside from the basic wrestling maneuvers, they must perform unique wrestling speed and agility exercises to develop their muscles to react with instant and aggressive power.
